Research and other initiatives taken in connection with MoU:

  1. Two faculties from Dept. of Chemistry, USTM named Dr. Pallabi Borah and Dr. Nibedita Banik visited TU and discussed about various matter such as-

i) Sending MSc students for project/MSc internship in TU

ii) Inviting faculties from TU as Guest lecturers in USTM

iii) Involving faculties of TU in our syllabus modifications

iv) Organising summer schools/winter schools/seminars/conferences jointly

v) Organising student exchange programs

vi)  Identifying scopes for collaborative major projects

vii) Faculty exchange programs between TU and USTM

viii) Involving faculties of TU for setting question papers

ix) Introduction of classes by video conferencing

On the basis of these discussions Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka (HOD Chemistry, TU) is likely to visit and take classes on every week of Saturday in the Department of Chemistry, USTM. Further, he also discussed with our faculty members regarding about the development of research activity.

  1. Regarding about the connection with MoU, Prof. Niranjan Karak (Tezpur University) visited and presented one topic related with recent development and applications in polymer Science. Most importantly he is also interested to help us for the improvement of research activity. Further he is also interested to train some of our good students in his research group.
  2. Dr. Utpal Borah (Associate Professor, TU) usually visits in the Department of Chemistry, USTM for conducting the M.Sc dissertation Viva. Prof. Borah is ready to improve our exam related matters and modification of Syllabus. This opening creates an important way for the development of Chemistry Education and Research in USTM.
  3. (i) In collaboration with Department of Chemical Sciences, TU, a project entitled “Experimental and theoretical studies for modification of ZSM-5” will be submitted soon to DST: By Dr. Durlov Saikia, Dr. Subhasish Roy & Prof. RC Deka

(ii)               A project entitled “Synthesis and characterization of nanoporous material and its application” is formulated for submission to DST in collaboration with Material Science Division, CSIR-NEIST: By Dr. Durlov Saikia, Dr. Subhasish Roy and Dr. Manash R Das.

(iii)             Talks are in progress to formulate a research proposal in collaboration with Chemistry Department, NIT Silchar : By Dr. Durlov Saikia and Dr. Pranjit Barman

(iv)             A project entitled “Development of Moringa Oleifera nanoparticles as anti cancer agents is formulated for submission to DRDO: By Dr. Nibedita Banik, Dr. Pallabi Borah and Prof. T. K. Maji.

  1. One student Ms. Mahshina Mazumdar from NIT Silchar has completed her M.Sc. Project work under the Guidance of Dr. Durlov Saikia and Dr. Subhasish Roy in conncetion with MoU.
  2. Prof. N. C. Baruah and Prof. R. C. Baruah (renowned Scientist, NEIST-Jorhat) visited USTM to deliver valuable lecture in Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry under MoU.
  3. Dr. Pranjal Saikia (Associate Professor in Chemistry, IST, G.U.) usually visited USTM, Chemistry department for taking classes on Saturday. Prof. Saikia also helps in conducting the practical examination for the Semester students. He has taken few of our M.Sc. 4th Semester students in his research group for the fulfillment of their project work. Prof. Saikia also has been invited as an expert for conducting Ph.D. progress report presentation under MoU.
  4. Prof. Diganta Das (Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University) is a member of BOS to modify our Syllabus process. He is an invited external expert for conducting various examinations in connection with MoU.
  5. Prof. Anup Talukdar and Prof. Dibakar Deka (Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University) also visited USTM and delivered lectures in the Department of Chemistry, USTM for the development of our students. Prof. Talukdar is an invited external expert for conducting various examinations in connection with MoU.
  6. Dr. Pallabi Borah (NET Co-ordinator) has taken some initiatives to invite some faculty members from Gauhati University and Tezpur University for improvement of our students in connection of MoU with TU and GU.
  7. In connection with MoU we send M.Sc. 4th Semester students to complete their project work at CSIR, NEIST-Jorhat, NIT Silchar, Gauhati University in every year.

Some students along with the faculty members visited CIPET Guwahati. The students got to know about the different instruments related to the processing of plastics like compression moulding, injection moulding etc.
